Northwest Mutual Aid Collective, Inc. is a grassroots non-profit organization located in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. Established in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, our organization aims to help combat food insecurities and food waste by supplying nutritious and healthy food to seniors, disabled residents, cancer patients and low-income families in the city’s Northwest section. We believe that people at a transitional point in their lives need a hand-up and not a handout, and we strive to be that support.

Our Mission is to be a food resource hub by working with community partners and community leaders to establish a collective to create change and growth within the community when dealing with food.

What makes us unique?

Even though we focus on food insecurity, here at Northwest Mutual Aid Collective, treating the whole person is part of our mission. A Client to us is more than just another person struggling to provide a reliable or affordable food resource for themselves. They may have various health concerns or situational needs affecting their way of life, so we have an intake process with each new client and each family to understand the whole picture. We ask questions about medical history, age, and other areas that will give a better understanding of their life; Because of this, we know that handing them a bag of just any produce or any pantry item will not get the job done. Each bag is customized the best we can from the food we receive to benefit the individual or family.
